On February 19, Lewis and Clark Community College (LC) hosted Discover Day in the Commons.
Discover Day is an event held to introduce incoming high schoolers to LC by offering student led tours around the campus and booths for LC programs and classes.
It is a way for high schoolers who are on their way to becoming a student at LC to become acquainted with the school and help them become more knowledgeable about their degree. It also is a way to fully know what they are pursuing while also finding out about opportunities for them if they were to change their major, do stackable credentials, or transfer to a four-year school.
“I think this was a very good introduction to people applying to LC,” said Shieann Harris a Criminal Justice student. “It was set up very nicely, and it was a very good thing for people with anxiety, in my personal opinion; those people could have scoped out the room and saw people that they knew and felt more comfortable with a new setting.”
The tours led the prospective students around the campus to show them where their classes will be and where the most important parts of the main complex — financial aid/bursar’s office, bookstore, advisor’s offices, ID registration — are located.
The booths offered LC gear of all kinds: bags, journals, pop-it bands, pens, pencils, sunglasses, ring light, cups, ID holders, stickers, pendants, and candy to welcome everyone.
“I think it had a really great turnout,” said Louise Jett, the Graphic and Web Design program advisor. “The audience was well-versed.”
