Unrelated to the bakery’s recent change in ownership but still noteworthy, My Just Desserts has been highlighted as a beloved local business in Alton with roots in the community’s culinary scene. It’s known for pie, ½-pound chicken salad sandwiches, brownies, and other classic desserts that have made it a staple in the area. The current owner aims to preserve the recipes and traditions that have kept the business successful since the 1980s, all while contributing to Alton’s cultural and economic landscape.
This type of business — especially when Black-owned — represents the deep tie between food culture and community identity. Supporting places like My Just Desserts not only means enjoying great food, but it also means uplifting Black just entrepreneurs whose ideas and cultural heritage enrich the local economy.
