Godfrey – The women’s soccer team from Lewis and Clark Community College (LC) faced a tough challenge today on the road against Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO), an NCAA Division I program. In a highly competitive and evenly matched game, SEMO came out on top with a 2-1 victory, but LC showed resilience, quality, and determination until the very end.
The match got off to a difficult start for LC. Just one minute into the game, a defensive error led to a penalty kick for SEMO, which they converted to take an early 1-0 lead. Despite the setback, LC responded immediately with a strong attacking mindset. The team pushed forward, creating several chances and putting pressure on the opposition.
Their efforts paid off when Isabela Santana capitalized on a brilliant pass from Abrianna. Breaking through the defense, she found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and calmly finished with a left-footed shot across goal to equalize. The goal energized LC and reinforced their belief as the match continued at a very high intensity.
SEMO maintained a physical style of play throughout the first half, making it a challenging contest. Still, LC matched their intensity and continued to compete, and the first half ended with the score tied 1-1.
The second half began much like the first ended, with LC playing confidently and creating opportunities. However, SEMO continued their aggressive approach, committing numerous fouls and disrupting the rhythm of the game. In the 60th minute, a controversial moment shifted the outcome: the referee awarded SEMO a highly questionable penalty. SEMO converted once again, making it 2-1.
Despite the setback, LC continued to fight and search for an equalizer, showing great character and effort. In the end, the scoreline remained unchanged, but the performance spoke volumes about the team’s growth and competitiveness.
This match marked the final game of the season for the LC women’s team. Although the result did not go their way, the players showed courage and determination, closing out what has been a historic season for Lewis and Clark Community College.
