In 2016, the popular soccer video game series made a big change. For the first time, it added a story mode called The Journey in FIFA 17. This new mode followed a fictional young player named Alex Hunter as he tried to become a professional soccer star.

Before this, most FIFA games focused on playing matches, managing teams, or creating custom players. The Journey was different. It gave players a story with cutscenes, dialogue, and important choices. Players controlled Alex both on the field and off the field. They decided how he talked to coaches, how he treated teammates, and how he responded to the media. These choices changed how other characters reacted to him and helped shape his career.

In FIFA 17, Alex starts as a talented teenager trying to earn a spot in the English Premier League. He faces pressure from his family and competition from other young players. The game shows how hard it is to become a professional athlete.

The story continues in FIFA 18, where Alex deals with fame, transfers, and bigger expectations. By the time players reach FIFA 19, the final chapter, Alex is aiming to win major trophies and prove he belongs among the best players in the world.

Many players say this mode made the game more exciting. “It felt more personal than just playing matches,” said David Sanchez, a student athlete freshman who has completed all three games. “I liked seeing Alex grow and making choices that changed his future.”

“I liked that it showed the hard parts of becoming a pro player, not just the goals and trophies,” said Iona Rovira, a student at Lewis and Clark Community College. “It made the game feel more real, like you were living someone’s career instead of just controlling a team.”

The Journey used advanced graphics and realistic scenes to make the experience feel like a sports movie. Players saw locker room talks, family arguments, press conferences, and championship celebrations. This helped create an emotional connection between the player and the character.

Even though the story ended in FIFA 19, many fans still remember Alex Hunter. The mode showed that sports video games can tell powerful stories, not just simulate matches. By mixing soccer action with real-life challenges, The Journey created a new way to experience the game.
