The women’s soccer team from Lewis and Clark Community College faced a tough opponent in University of Missouri–St. Louis on Tuesday, March 10, at Glazebrook Park. The match ended in an exciting 3–3 draw after three 30-minute periods.

Lewis and Clark started the game strongly, dominating possession during the first period and controlling the rhythm of play. The early pressure quickly paid off when Poppy scored shortly after entering the field, giving Lewis and Clark a 1–0 lead.

In the second period, the match became more balanced as UMSL began to find more opportunities going forward. Their efforts were rewarded when they managed to equalize, making it 1–1. However, Lewis and Clark regained the lead thanks to Abriana, who capitalized on a major mistake by the UMSL goalkeeper. Abriana intercepted the ball near the goal and calmly finished to put Lewis and Clark ahead 2–1.

With only a short time left in the second period, UMSL struck back with an impressive long-range shot from outside the box, leveling the match at 2–2.

The third and final period showed signs of fatigue from both teams. As the pace of the match took its toll, both sides began to make more mistakes in possession. UMSL took advantage of one of those moments and managed to score again, taking a 3–2 lead late in the game.

Just when it seemed the match might slip away, Lewis and Clark produced one final moment of brilliance. With the clock winding down, Anitz unleashed a powerful strike from about 20 yards out that flew into the top corner, tying the game at 3–3 and bringing excitement to the closing moments of the match.

After the game, midfielder Lina Rey highlighted the team’s resilience. “We showed a lot of character today,” Rey said. “Even when we were tired and the game got difficult, we kept fighting until the very last minute.”

Rey also praised the team’s mentality throughout the match. “We had great possession in the first part and created many chances,” she said. “Matches like this help us grow as a team and prepare us for the next fall.”

The draw reflected a competitive match between two determined teams and demonstrated Lewis and Clark’s ability to respond under pressure.
