Free Counseling for Students
Students at Lewis and Clark Community College now have access to free, confidential counseling to support their mental health and well-being. The college offers these personal services in person, by phone, or via Zoom at no cost to students.
Some of the services students can receive include crisis intervention, anxiety management, academic support, stress coping techniques, and career decisions. Assessments and referrals to other resources are also available if students need them.
“I’m very happy that students can talk with professionals without paying extra money, especially when college life can be stressful,” said María Fernanda Rodriguez, who is a sophomore here at Lewis and Clark Community College. “I have friends who have used these services, and it has really helped them feel better and focus on their classes.”
Students can also use “Aiberry’s” online tools to learn how they feel about their mental health. “Aiberry” offers quick, confidential screenings that help students better understand their stress, anxiety, mood, or other concerns before beginning a formal consultation. These assessments are not clinical diagnoses, but they do provide useful information and resource recommendations, making it easier for students to know what kind of support they may need while using the university’s free services.
In addition to on-campus counseling services, students can also use “BetterMynd”, an online therapy service that offers virtual sessions with licensed counselors. This option allows students to talk to a professional from home, using their computer or phone. Appointments are available during the day, in the evenings, and even on weekends. The service is free for students and completely confidential, making it easy to get help when they need it most.
“It’s great to have different options,” said Pierre Ulloa, another student. “Sometimes it’s easier to talk from home when you’re having a bad day, so being able to use the “BetterMynd” service is a big help.”
To make an appointment with counselors on campus, students can call Lewis and Clark Counseling services at 618-468-4125, or 618-468-4130 and ask to speak with Terri Austin or Brooke Frank during the week. In emergency situations, crisis numbers are available 24 hours a day.
If students are experiencing a crisis, or know of anybody who is experiencing a crisis that requires immediate intervention call or text the national suicide and crisis lifeline at 9-8-8 or chat 988lifeline.org
