Godfrey – The men’s soccer team from Lewis and Clark Community College suffered a 3-0 loss this Sunday against Lindenwood University in a match played at 1:00 p.m. on the opponent’s field.

Despite the final scoreline, the game itself was much more balanced than it appears. In the first half, LC showed a brave and competitive performance, controlling possession for long stretches and creating positive moments against a team that at times looked uncomfortable and under pressure.

However, the difference in physicality and competitive level — especially considering Lindenwood competes in NCAA Division I — ultimately made the difference. The first two goals came in the opening half, both from quick counterattacks that caught LC exposed while pushing forward.

Even after those setbacks, LC continued to fight and show character, particularly in the first half where their ball control stood out. The team moved the ball well and managed to impose their rhythm, forcing Lindenwood to sit deeper and play more direct than usual.

Right at the start of the second half, Lindenwood scored their third goal from the penalty spot in a very questionable call that sparked protests from the LC players. That goal effectively sealed the outcome of the match.

With a 3-0 lead, Lindenwood managed the game comfortably, while LC, despite their effort, couldn’t find the goal their performance arguably deserved.

After the match, Yago Deven reflected on the team’s performance: “I think the result doesn’t reflect the game we played at all. We had very good phases, especially in the first half, where we dominated possession and made them struggle.”

He also added: “We knew they were a very physical and high-level opponent, but we competed well. The counterattacks hurt us, and that penalty at the start of the second half really affected us.”

Despite the result, Lewis and Clark showed a competitive spirit and proved they can challenge higher-level opponents. Matches like this serve as valuable learning experiences as the team continues to grow throughout the season.
