Sun Smith-Foret, local artist and practicing psychotherapist, is being honored at the L&C campus where her exhibit – focusing on African American films, actors, and directors – is currently on display. Using the African American textile technique of strip piecing, Smith-Foret combines compelling graphic imagery with mass media and entertainment to create artistic pieces that will leave viewers in awe. According to the artist, “Current DVD technology facilitates a global discourse which I seek to join by way of my artwork. I like being part of a large and diverse audience. I wish to locate myself and my artwork in a rationally, emotionally, spiritually, and humanely arrived at multi-cultural future with roots in narrative tradition.” The opportunity to view an exhibit that will leave you with a new appreciation for African American quilting and film has arrived, but it will only be available to viewers for a limited time. The display is running in the multimedia room of the Trimpe Building through February 14.
