The Wonder of Kindness

Kindness is a virtue that many people, unfortunately, take for granted. I can understand why, because being kind, especially to those who cause you misery, is a difficult task to accomplish.

However, I also believe it is still worth it and would beg of everyone around me to exhibit kindness as well. Seeing as we live in a world still filled with so much hatred and division, I can see the temptation to give in and be just as ugly or petty to those who have chosen to be that way to us.

I beg of you to resist these urges because there is more than enough hate already. One act of kindness, however, can inspire another, and another, and so on. I believe firmly in sending out what you want to see in the world, and I admire someone who shows random acts of kindness far more than those who will throw shade like confetti.

We live in too hard of a world to help contribute to making it worse. Which isn’t to say that we don’t make mistakes… we all do. We all have negative emotions and have temptations to let them take control, but it’s important to not listen to those feelings. Being hateful doesn’t help anybody, including yourself.

So, even if I know someone will talk behind my back, I still smile to them and mean it. Even if I suspect someone’s distaste for me, I will still compliment them. Even if I am positive that they’d enjoy seeing me hit by a bus, I will still wish that person a good day, and sincerely hope they have one.

I don’t mind what they think of me because it doesn’t have to be how I think of myself. I show myself kindness, and I try to show kindness to others as well. I don’t know what that person is going through, and maybe they need someone to be nice more than someone to fight with. I believe a lot more in becoming friends rather than enemies with people.

If even one kind thing I do can put a smile on someone’s face, I’ll do it. Life is too short to hold onto grudges and to wish others suffering. It doesn’t make you weak or a suck up either, it just means you’re willing to choose a better path. Kindness is not weakness, it’s the strongest expression of humanity I have ever known. So go forth and be kind to each other, because, at the end of the day, we are all we really have.
