SOUNDWAVES: (Songs Of The Day) The Decemberists

Song of the day

It is finally here! Well, almost…those of us in the St. Louis area and are lucky enough to be holding tickets to the sold out Decemberists’ show have been waiting for this day for months. In only a handful of hours (looks at clock and tries to speed up time with mind) the incredibly talented Colin Meloy and company will take the stage following yesterday’s song of the day contributor, Justin Townes Earle, to serenade us and sweep us away into their catalog of rustic folk, gothic twang, and far from simple pop. In order to prepare those fans waiting to flock to the Pageant for the night of inspiring music, I have taken the time to throw together a list of songs spanning each of the band’s albums. Are you as excited as I am?

“July, July!” from the 2002 album Castaways and Cutouts.

“Red Right Ankle” from the 2003 album Her Majesty The Decemberists

“The Engine Driver” from the 2005 album Picaresque

“We Both Go Down Together” from the 2005 album Picaresque

“The Crane Wife 3” from the 2006 album The Crane Wife

“The Hazards of Love 4 (The Drowned)” from the 2009 album The Hazards of Love

“Rise To Me” from the 2011 album The King Is Dead
