Students, staff and faculty from Lewis and Clark Community College can learn the intricacies of beatboxing on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at 7 pm on Zoom with an award-winning artist named Sung Lee, also known as Sungbeats. Student Activities Advisor, Jared Hennings, said, “It’s an interactive workshop/lesson where students will learn the basics of beatboxing. Participants will have a blast learning basic drum sounds, vocal scratching and sound effects in a way that is relatable and fun.”

SungBeats is a beatboxer and live-loop artist from NYC who has been performing and perfecting his craft for around 13 years now. Sungbeats uses his voice to produce engaging and powerful music through a complex process of layering vocal percussion and other sound effects live in real-time, without the use of any pre-recorded samples, backing tracks or instruments. From hip hop, to electronic dance music, to #1 Billboard charting singles, Sungbeats does it all with his mouth and no other equipment other than a microphone and a loop pedal.

SungBeats was the 2018 American Loopstation Beatbox Champion. He also took the first place prize for winning the 80th season of Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater, the historic talent contest known for launching the careers of many stars in the industry.

SungBeats is presently performing his uniquely captivating show to colleges and universities across the country while teaching the art of beatboxing. It is reported that Sungbeats, “believes he has only scratched the surface in terms of what can be done with the voice and is excited to share the endless musical possibilities of his journey as it develops and unfolds with the rest of the world.”
