There are few things in this world that I love more than a good book with a solid plot and unexpected twists and turns, however more recently I decided to branch out of my comfort zone in order to find a hidden gem. Not only did I find a few, I technically found hundreds! I recently bought three choose-your-own-adventure novels, where instead of following one concise narrative, the reader can make different choices that affect the story. I specifically read “My Lady’s Choosing: An Interactive Romance Novel” by Kitty Curran and Larissa Zageris, “Lost in Austen” by Emma Campbell Webster, and “Romeo and/or Juliet: A Chooseable-Path Adventure” by Ryan North. All of the previously mentioned novels are currently available for purchase on Amazon.com. Of the three books I read, my personal favorite was “My Lady’s Choosing: An Interactive Romance Novel”.
I was surprised by how many different stories I could build and how long it would take to navigate them all, and how much fun I had doing so! It was like being a kid again and discovering the magic of books all over again. I was able to honestly say I was not able to predict what would happen next since it is impossible to foreshadow anything when we are not sure which direction the story will go. I highly recommend giving choose-your-own-adventure novels a chance if you happen to find yourself in a reading rut.
There are a few different genres with choose-your-own-adventure books, for my case I focused on romance novels since they are my favorite, but there are also general adventure, fantasy, horror and even science fiction choose-your-own-adventure books! I would even recommend these kinds of books for people who normally do not read a lot, since they are a very entertaining escape to get lost and have fun in!
