Trying to turn the tide on their season, the Trailblazers volleyball side hosted Missouri Baptist University’s JV team, a team they dropped a match to earlier in the campaign by the score of 3-0. The matchup on October 1 at Riverbend Arena went a bit better for the Trailblazers, who have been searching for their groove seemingly all season.

This Trailblazer team had more fight than teams I’ve seen in previous matches this season. One might attribute this to surviving their busiest and toughest stretch of the schedule, or maybe training and hard work between games. The likely answer is a combination of the two.

The match finished 3-1 in favor of the visiting Missouri Baptist Spartans, but L&C was never really out of this game until the last match. They were more vocal on the floor, and played with a cohesion that they’ve lacked in previous matches. The Trailblazers also had a great performance from Tiana Wiseman manning the net, she was a constant presence for Wilkerson’s team.

Trailblazer volleyball head coach Bron Wilkerson is aware that the regular season hasn’t gone his team’s way. Speaking to WIlkerson following Tuesday’s loss at Riverbend Arena, he noted his team’s less than stellar win-loss record, but knows that the regular season isn’t the end goal.

“(The M-WAC Conference Tournament) is what the whole season’s been about. We’re not really concerned with the record, we’re concerned with the conference tournament.”

Wilkerson’s Trailblazers are trying to win games, obviously, but with the main goal more on becoming a cohesive unit in time for the M-WAC Conference Tournament. After a 3-0 defeat to Lincoln Trail on October 4, L&C looks to rebound in non-conference play vs. St. Louis CC on the 8th of the month.
