I will be completely honest with you all, there had not been many movies that have come out recently that I was immediately excited about. However, once I heard that the trailer of the sequel to the cult classic “The Craft” came out, I practically ran to my laptop in order to watch it. “The Craft” is a gothic movie about four teenage girls who engage in witchcraft and form a coven and begin to get carried away with the spells they cast until situations around them turn deadly. Growing up, “The Craft” was one of the movies I would watch and enjoy on repeat every single Halloween season and it is to this day one of my favorite movies. You would be surprised to know how many times I tried to play “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board” with my friends!

The trailer seems to take a different approach aesthetically from the original film, showing the use of magic as light and sparkly with bright pastel colors in many of the scenes shown. There have been a few fans who expressed concern that the sequel will have abandoned the dark-toned spirit of the original. However, I personally want to wait and watch the film before saying such things. I think it is entirely possible that the trailer is purposely misleading and the film itself will be more intense and reminiscent of the first Craft movie.

What I, and many others, are most excited about was the appearance of Fairuza Balk as Nancy Downs in a photo album being held by the protagonist of the new movie. There are already fan theories circulating that the main character may actually be Nancy’s daughter who is attempting to corrupt the other three girls in the movie in order to gain enough power to unbind Nancy, as was shown at the end of the first movie. If that is the direction the film goes, I will be very pleased with the careful thought and cleverness of the writers. “The Craft Legacy” will be available On Demand on Oct. 28, 2020. I, for one, will be waiting in anticipation!
