Recyclemania Challenge

LC Students

Dear Lewis and Clark Community College,

You know the old saying, “the grass is greener on the other side?” Well, it’s true. The grass here in Edwardsville is greener, and so is our student body. We Cougars are beating you in a game you probably didn’t even know you were playing! Recyclemania runs February through March and whoever can recycle the most is crowned Grand Champion. Colleges all over the US and Canada are playing. Each week, participating schools report to Recyclemania the amount of recycling and trash they have collected, and then they are ranked in various categories based on who recycles the most on a per capita basis, as well as which schools have the best recycling rate as a percentage of total waste and which schools generate the least amount of combined trash and recycling. Each week, rankings are updated, and you can track your progress, if you make any, on Recyclemaniacs.org under the Scoreboard tab. By the way, get used to that word, scoreboard, which we’ll be chanting after we’re done mopping the floor with you. “Scoreboard! Scoreboard! Scoreboard!”

“National recognition is provided to the winning school in each category on the RecycleMania website and in a national press release. Winning schools receive an award made out of recyclable materials, and win the right to host that category’s special traveling trophy for the coming year.”

Anyway, if you care about the planet, or at least about not being embarrassed, join the fun! In the meantime, we’ll continue to do the right thing by our big mama Earth while you do…whatever a “trailblazer” does, lol. More like TrailBlunders!

Don’t cry, it’ll be over soon.

The SIUE Student Body.

*Although this letter is fake, the challenge is real. LC will be competing against schools around the country for the next two months to see who can recycle the most. Let’s kick some butt and show just how much we can recycle!
