Lewis and Clark Community College’s Student Sustainability Association hosted a campus event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 23  in the Commons. The event was about recognizing the need to go green and to make our world a better place. It is an annual event sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. They seek to highlight the roads that colleges and universities are taking to create green communities.

Lewis and Clark Community College is a leader in campus sustainability. They have set a goal of a net carbon neutrality by 2058. According to Nate Keener, Director of Sustainability, “To meet that challenge, we need your help! Students have a number of opportunities on campus to engage in the Sustainability movement. They can join the Student Sustainability Association by emailing me.”

Students will be invited to take a pledge of making the campus and their community a more sustainable place. After they take their pledge, students will take home a free water bottle. Students can sign up for the Green Pass Program, that provides incentives to students and staff who use alternative forms of transportation. There are other ways to make campus greener, like recycling, printing paper on both sides of the page and shutting off lights when you leave a room.

The event will focus on, “recognizing what we’ve done and the work that still needs to be done to ‘Green our Campus’,” said Keener.
