Pokémon fans are raving over Nintendo’s newest installment in the franchise: “Pokémon Legends: Arceus.” Game Freak’s take on an RPG, fantasy Pokémon world may be one of the greatest editions to the franchise yet—and millions of fans worldwide agree.

Legends: Arceus released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on January 28, raking in thousands of outstanding reviews from players and critics alike. With the ability to zoom around and interact with our beloved, quirky Pokémon, this game has everything and more for nostalgic fans of the franchise.

Pokémon games have typically stayed main-line with new installments, following a simple, yet evocative, design. “Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl” were a remake of the old, nostalgic games of the mid-2000s—and Game Freak’s latest edition to the Pokémon collection prior.

“Pokémon Legends: Arceus” is regarded as a fresh new take on the concept of Pokémon games, and for many old and new players alike, it worked. With fresh new movement systems and a world that mimics similar, classic RPG styles like “Breath of the Wild” (Zelda), Legends: Arceus feels like a step in a new direction for the future of Pokémon.

For those unfamiliar to the genre, the game can seem a little overwhelming at first—but dropping down for the first time is an instant-immersion. From the intro screen to end credits, Legends: Arceus is an explosive experience with much to bring to the table of RPG’s.

If you’re a fan of Pokémon, this game is likely to be an innovative treat with the same squishy, bubbly creatures that we all know and love. Sit down, relax, and get ready to complete a new Pokédex in this one-of-a lifetime installment in the wonderful world of Pokémon.
