The Alton Area Tax Project is offering free tax preparation to low-income members of the greater Alton community beginning Saturday Jan. 26 through April 13, 2013 at the Bethalto Community Educational Center. The Center is located at the St. Louis Regional Airport in Bethalto at 1136 Airline Drive. The site will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-8:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. There is a bus stop near the site.

The services include free preparation of federal and state returns, electronic filing and direct deposit of refunds. Your household income must have been less than 551,000 to qualify for the service. Requirements include:

If applicable, bring a real estate tax receipt with the parcel ID number if you own a home, proof of unemployment compensation, and proof of child care expenses.
