After an exhaustive semester-long search, Lewis and Clark Community College’s newly hired President Dr. Ken Trzaska took office on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, and he is not wasting any time. Even with all of the obstacles of daily life at L&C in our new normal, Dr. Trzaska is not keeping that from making sure he is meeting his student body.

Dr. Trzaska is taking the opportunity to start meeting his student leaders by joining the Student Government Association (SGA) at their next virtual meeting that is open to the general student body on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020 at 1 p.m. on Zoom.

In addition to being L&C’s sixth president, Dr. Trzaska also serves as president of the Community College Council of Presidents and is the co-chair of the System Council of Presidents. Dr. Trzaska came to L&C from Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan., where he had been president since 2015.

Dr. Trzaska has over 23 years of experience in serving small, medium and large colleges and universities in urban, suburban and rural communities with executive leadership and faculty roles.

VP of Student Engagement and Advisor for Student Government Association, Dr. Sean Hill, said, “We are excited about Dr. Trzaska’s vision for the college. Students will find him to be friendly and approachable.” Dr. Hill encourages students to attend the virtual meeting on Oct. 7 even if they aren’t normal SGA attendees. “These informal sessions give students the opportunity to learn more about him and his plans for Lewis & Clark”, said Hill.

Jared Hennings, Co-Advisor for Student Government Association, said, “I think President Trzaska’s desire to meet the representatives of our respective clubs of the Student Government Association and its respective officers, demonstrates his willingness to get to know a very important aspect of our student body. He wants to begin his presidency identifying himself as an administrator who has his pulse on students’ ideas and I know these students will welcome his attendance at our meeting.”

David Crull, Vice-President of L&C’s Student Government Association, said, “I love Lewis and Clark and I am really excited to meet the new president. I really hope that once he is settled, Dr. Trzaska could possibly look into his schedule and see if something like this on a regular basis or even a ‘Lunch with the Prez’ is a possibility when we get back to a more normal situation. I think something like that would empower our students more than ever.”

Don’t forget to add the upcoming SGA meeting on your calendar; the link to join the Zoom call will be posted on Blackboard and the Facebook page for SGA directly beforehand.
