Initially, this is the time for students from the College for Kids to join in on the classroom festivities. Right from the comfort of their own home, presented through Zoom! Zoom is an American communications technology company and its headquarters is based in San Jose, California. It provides video telephony and online chat services through a cloud-based peer-to-peer software platform and is used for teleconferencing, telecommuting, distance education and social relations.

Media Specialist, Louise Jett, will be instructing “Online Graphic Design”, “Publish an “Interactive Story” and “Puzzle Maker.” These classes will be very helpful in guiding students to put their quarantine educational creativity skills to use.

Our Community Education Department, along with some of the wonderful adjunct faculty, has developed a virtual program for our 2020 College for Kids. All courses have been created specifically to be taught virtually using the Zoom application. Students will be able to meet with their instructor during scheduled times, just like they would if the class was taught face-to-face. I think this is a great opportunity for children in our area who missed out on planned activities due to COVID-19. Not only will they get to participate in fun and exciting activities, but they will still be able to interact with other children, create memories and learn something new as if they were sitting in the classroom,” said Heather Amburg who is Coordinator, of the Tri-County Community Education Center with High School Partnership.

According to the article “Lewis and Clark’s College For Kids Goes Digital” by Louise Jett, “The Hobbit” will also be a hot topic class being taught by Jim Caldwell for students!

“Get ready to learn about the third most used language in the United States. Join us as we have three weeks of fun learning basic conversational signs through games and instruction. Get hands-on experience as we bring some music to life through American Sign Language,” said Snyder.

Students will also have a chance in participating in “Self-defense for kids”. This class is for helping children protect themselves physically and against the different issues that they may face in society, according to instructor Brendan Neal, who also teaches “Tae Kwon Do.”

Overall, this will be a fun and exciting time for children to learn life skills and have fun while doing so. Oftentimes when children are able to put their creativity skills to use they tend to grow in other ways like maturity levels and personal skills. It’s a chance for them to express exactly what is on their minds. For parents, I highly encourage you to give your child the chance to join in for these online Zoom classes because it will be an educational benefit for them in the future as well as throughout their life!
